Accredited Construction Courses We Offer

Construction Training International delivers a range of diverse accredited construction courses.
We’re one of Victoria’s main institutions for construction training, offering all types of courses to get you onto the construction site:

  • Dogging: Our dogging course teaches you how to safely direct a crane operator and sling loads using hand signals and radio communication. You’ll learn all about load calculation, selecting lifting gear and directing crane operations.
  • Rigging: Similar to dogging, rigging teaches you how to move, place, and secure loads using a bunch of different rigging equipment and techniques. You’ll learn about complex lifting operations, including using multiple crane lifts and installing/dismantling rigging equipment.
  • Crane Operation: When you’re qualified in crane operation, you can safely operate mobile, tower, or vehicle-mounted cranes on construction sites. The course covers crane operation principles, load charts, risk assessment and emergency procedures.
  • Scaffolding: Our scaffolding course teaches you how to erect, modify and dismantle scaffolding structures according to safety regulations. Students learn about different types of scaffolding, load calculations and fall protection systems.
  • Forklifts: Get your forklift licence at Construction Training International. Our forklift course covers operation, load handling, workplace safety, pre-operational checks and manoeuvring in confined spaces.
  • Earthmoving: This course teaches operation of earthmoving equipment such as excavators, bulldozers and loaders for construction work. You’ll learn everything you need to know about various earthmover operation, excavation techniques and workplace safety procedures.
  • Elevating Work Platform (EWP): EWP training covers the operation of boom lifts, scissor lifts and other aerial work platforms for working at heights. The course includes platform selection, safe operation, emergency procedures and pre-start inspections.
  • Certificate III Civil Construction: CTI also offers a Cert III in Civil Construction – a comprehensive qualification which prepares you for a career in civil construction. It covers everything from road construction to drainage systems and infrastructure projects. The program includes both theoretical knowledge and practical skills across multiple construction disciplines, including health and safety, plant operation and site management.
  • Workplace Spotting: Our workplace spotting course teaches you how to safely guide and direct mobile plant equipment and vehicles around construction sites and other workplaces. You’ll get trained in communication systems, traffic management, and hazard identification.

Flexible Training Options: On-site and Online

Live rurally? Prefer studying at home when you can? Love doing everything in-person? Whatever your study style, Construction Training International has flexible options to accommodate you.

Construction Training International delivers course content both on-site and online. This means you can get qualified in construction your own way!

We’re proud to be able to deliver course content that fits in with the students’ lifestyles. It’s what makes CTI one of the preferred Registered Training Organisations for construction in Victoria.

Online course content

We like to keep your training flexible, with plenty of online content options across many of our construction courses. Construction training often involves theoretical course content, much of which can be done online. This allows students to keep their learning flexible – we won’t drag you all the way to class just to fill out a worksheet!

On-site attendance

On-site attendance is another essential part of construction training. Since construction is such a hands-on industry, all your practical training will be done at our Riddells Creek construction simulation site (one of the best in Victoria). For these modules, on-site attendance means you get to experience what it’s really like to be on a construction site, giving you practical experience before you’ve even landed your first job. Your trainers will instruct you on how to operate industry-standard machinery and equipment on our top-class simulation site.

Mobile training available

If your company needs employing training at your premises, we can accommodate for this, too. Just contact CTI to discuss your options and ensure you’ve got the right equipment and facilities available

Options for rural and interstate students

Heading to Melbourne from a rural area, or from interstate? Construction Training International gives a warm welcome to all of our non-local students. We know what it’s like to come from so far away, and that’s why we also offer accommodation on-site. Options for on-site accommodation include our two-bedroom shared cabin at $80 per night and out Lake House for $120 a night.

CTI’s flexible training options are perfect for a range of individuals and companies:

  • Students without driver’s licences
If it’s a struggle to get to Riddells Creek every day due to not having a licence, then online course content is preferable to these students.
  • Students from far away areas
If you’re living rurally or interstate, our on-site accommodation and online learning options make it easy for you to get qualified in construction.
  • Companies with a large number of employees
Companies can benefit from our ability to train employees at their own sites, rather than at ours.

Construction Training International is Victoria’s leading team in online and on-site construction training, helping Australians become experts in construction and secure better quality construction jobs. Reach out to our team about our flexible construction training options.

Testimonials from Satisfied Trainees

At Construction Training International, we’re one of Australia’s most prestigious training institutes.
We boast a full-size construction simulation site, the most dedicated and experienced trainers, and competitive training prices to boot.

But what are our graduated trainees saying about us? Here are some testimonials from past trainees who can vouch for our excellence in construction training:

Very hands on and informative. The trainer Dennis lets you make a mistake to help you understand why and how it happened. Dennis explained things over and over to ensure we all understood the task at hand, especially the formulas for the mathematical side. Robyn and Tim were both experienced crane operators and were helpful in the education side of things when moving a load.

Ben

Just finished doing my dogging course and I have to say that Garry (assessor) and Linda (crane operator) made the course a breeze. They constantly helped when I asked and never hesitated to offer more help if needed. They both made me feel like I wanted to learn and best of all they made it fun which takes out the nerves! Will definitely be going back to CTI for any future courses. Thanks again!

Anthony

Completed my dogging course down at CTI training facilities. Just a shout out to Johnny Paddy for his great knowledge and work ethic for teaching us boys and spending good time out on the field working with the crane. He has a lot of patience and explains things thoroughly throughout the course.

Joseph

I just did my intermediate rigging course, I was lucky to have Frank as our trainer. I thankfully passed the training and the knowledge I have left with thanks to the outstanding training provided to us. I highly recommend this place. Frank, you’re a legend mate and we need more trainers like you!

Jeremy

Top notch training. Denis was great at answering questions, not getting frustrated when we were struggling at the start. Gave lots of useful information about how the tests would be applied on the worksite. Far better than the last joint I went to.

Lachlan

Really good training. Denis the trainer is a really good bloke who explained things really well. I believe he provided us with the right information and training to succeed come exam time. The training was a good amount theory/practical with adequate breaks in between. Thanks Denis and CTI for the service and training.

Jerome

“Just completed my basic riggers course, and I passed with flying colours. Denis my trainer for the week, has a wealth of knowledge and makes the training enjoyable and easy to understand. Would highly recommend this guy to do your basic riggers with.”

Are your courses nationally recognised?

Yes. All courses provided by Construction Training International are recognised across Australia. This allows you to live in any state or territory while working in construction.

How long is my licence/certification valid for?

This depends on the licence in question, but most licences are valid for 5 years before a refresher is required

  • High Risk Work Licences (including Cranes, Rigging, Scaffolding): Valid for 5 years
  • White Card: Does not expire
  • Forklift Licence: Valid for 5 years

Some certifications need renewing every so often. Most of these will require a refresher course to be completed after 5 years.

What's the difference between a ticket, licence and certification?

Today, the terms ‘ticket’, ‘licence’ and ‘certification’ are often used interchangeably in construction, but there are some slight differences between them. A ‘ticket’ is industry slang for a licence, which is a legal requirement to perform certain high-risk work (like operating a crane or forklift) A certification (or ‘cert’ for short) is a qualification (like Certificate III in Civil Construction) which proves your competency in a particular field but may not be a legal requirement to work.

Do I need a White Card before starting training?

Most courses require a White Card to be held by the student before training. We recommend all students to have their White Card before they start construction training at CTI.

Is there a minimum age requirement?

Yes, age requirements vary by course:

  • Most High Risk Work Licences: Minimum 18 years
  • White Card: Minimum 14 years
  • Certificate III courses: Minimum 15 years

  • Good balance and coordination
  • Adequate vision (with or without correction)
  • Adequate hearing (Ability to hear safety signals and instructions)
